Bas-Saint-Laurent

The Lower Saint Lawrence region overflows with products in which tradition merges with the artisans’ originality and skill.  Come meet our producers and restauranteurs — true enthusiasts of the best the region has to offer — and take the opportunity to take home some of our regional know-how.

For a touch of nostalgia, visit the Tourisme Rimouski website to see a selection of recipes from top regional chefs that will remind you of the wonderful flavours found in the Bas-Saint-Laurent.

The Lower Saint Lawrence region immediately brings to mind fresh, smoked and salted seafood. Our regional know-how in these specialties has undoubtedly been well established for generations! But our expertise is constantly developing in other areas as well, such as cured meats, organic foods, lamb and other meats produced in the region. You can take advantage of the network of markets and shops to discover new culinary treats and specialties.

To mention just a few of our wonderful products:

In addition to alcoholic spirits made the traditional way from grapes, honey or berries, the region stands out thanks to the know-how on display at Domaine Acer, the maple Economuseum®, which produces creative drinks fermented directly from maple sap.

The cheeses from Le Détour cheese factory are already known beyond our borders, having won prizes in competitions in the United States. At Le Mouton Blanc cheese factory, try the unique flavour of cheeses made from raw sheep's milk. And how can we talk about cheese without mentioning delicious bread, hot from the oven? Small craft bakeries are in the spotlight in our area. Organic ingredients or the blending of various regional products make all the difference.

Our fish markets are overflowing with fresh, smoked and pickled products. Some markets even prepare ready-to-eat meals on site, perfect for an impromptu picnic!

For those with a sweet tooth, the region offers chocolates, candies, preserves, honey, sorbets, pastries and more. And don’t forget our creative and organic maple products, like the organic maple sugar flakes from Decacer.

The restaurants in our region will please any palate and fit any budget. Many establishments offer a unique and authentic cuisine incorporating many local and regional products. The Auberge du Chemin Faisant in Témiscouata-sur-le-Lac (Cabano), Café Azimut in La Pocatière and Bistro l’Ardoise in Rimouski are just a few of the many delectable options.
