Meet the men and women who shape our Québec terroir and its products

Québec is very diverse geographically. Rivers, mountains, forests, streams... With these natural riches, and thanks to the hard work of our farmers, food processors and artisans, Québec has developed its own “taste”! Gone is the time when only Cheddar appeared on the table, only imported wines tasted good, and the Québec terroir was defined only by maple syrup!

Come and meet these passionate people who enrich our pantries, our restaurants, our grocery stores with fresh products and produce from our own soil. Whether you’re planning a quick visit to a farm, a school outing or a recreational activity, there’s lots to learn about our soils, products, processing methods, farms, wineries and vineyards, apple orchards and cider houses, cheese makers, meaderies, honey producers and bakeries – all right here in Québec! On the farm, have fun being a farmer for a day, feed the animals, spin your own mohair wool, pick strawberries, blueberries and raspberries, observe the farm animals up close… You’ll be amazed at the originality and the wide diversity of the places to visit! Many of the programs for visits are specially adapted for school groups too.

The 2nd largest bird in the world lays its eggs in Québec too!

Charlevoix has the largest emu farm in Québec. While the ostrich may be the largest bird in the world, the emu can grow as tall as 1.5 m to 1.8 m (5 to 6 feet) and weigh between 56 and 68 kgs (125 to 150 pounds). It produces excellent meat, and emu oil is becoming more and more recognized for its benefits for skin care. In its natural environment, the male sits on the eggs and raises the young, while the female guards the territory. Is that what happens in Québec? Find out more: Le Centre de l’émeu de Charlevoix >>
